Atlanta Airport App Re-Design

The last thing anyone needs when running late to the airport is a small screen with confusing toggles, small text, and complicated design. Numerous examples of airport websites and apps clearly show room for improvement. The challenge was approached with the goal of designing an app that would aid travelers while offering a unique and clear perspective.

Clear, Reliable, Intuitive, Engaging

Final

Research

At the start of the design process, the key issue in past designs became clear: illegibility and information overload. The solution was to remove redundancy and adopt a simple color scheme.

Poor Examples of Airport Websites

Sketching

The goal was to establish a clear hierarchy based on travelers' priorities, like destination, times, and status. Design elements, such as search bars and sort-by toggles, were tested to create the most intuitive layout.

Digital Iterations

Color Iterations

Separating flights into arrivals and departures simplified the design. Experimenting with design of time, gate, status, and location for increased clarity.

Final Design+Walkthrough

The final design features a dark and engaging color story with a clear, readable typeface. Flight information is uniform and reliable. Status is intuitively indicated by a small circle icon with corresponding colors to represent delayed, on-time, or canceled flights.
