Research and Sketching
Researched poems with literal elements and an intriguing, interpretive theme. Sketches for each stanza created unity while highlighting differences. Simple design elements maintained the poem's serenity while engaging the reader visually.
Digital Iterations
A combination of both literal flowers and type design was chosen to achieve a contrasting and airy look while keeping the text decorative and interesting. Imaginative lines were incorporated to avoid over-filling any section.

Haiku Extension—Autumn Blooms

Vibrant, Melodic, Exciting, Dynamic
Research
As I was thinking of ways to expand on my previous project, I thought back to my grandparents always taking me to the symphony through my childhood. I saw Christmas themed shows, spring concerts, etc.
Mood Board
After drafting a loose outline for a performance inspired by the poem, research was conducted an article was discovered highlighting a “brand refresh” for the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
At first glance, a performance based on flowers might suggest a “Spring Awakening” theme; however, Chrysanthemums are an exception to the rule. They bloom in peak Autumn with vibrant and bold colors. This contrasts a somber or delicate interpretation.
